Comfrey root – A bone and joint miracle! You might be doing a Herbal Detox program because of arthritis, rheumatism, or just general aches and pains. Comfrey is one of those amazing plants with almost miraculous healing properties. Forty patients suffering from knee joint injuries, sprains and bruises were treated with ointment containing comfrey extract, achieving a significant reduction of pain (pain at rest and on movement) and swelling. The mobility of the affected joint increased significantly. Treatment took place over a period of 8 days and had a good to very good effect on 85% of the patients. Allantoin has been claimed as the active ingredient of comfrey, which is responsible for triggering cell division and wound healing, also promoting conjunctive tissue, bone, and cartilage growth. S. officinale root extract contains allantoin and phenolic acids (e.g., rosmarinic, p-hydroxybenzoic, caffeic, chlorogenic and p-coumaric acids), and displays remarkable antioxidant effects, besides exerting a positive impact in human skin fibroblasts, encouraging growth and healing. How To Make Comfrey Root Paste Today I am going to share with you my method for making a healing comfrey root rub. The process is quite involved so it’s best to watch the two videos below, but here is a brief outline. Ingredients: Fresh Comfrey root (you will need to find some growing) About 500 ml Olive oil (reduces down to 400ml after cooking comfrey) 50 gm Beeswax (to thicken) Liquid Herb Extracts 100ml (3.3 ounces) Yarrow 30% Gotu Kola 30% Arnica 20% Bilberry 10% Ginger 10% Method: Dig the root and clean thoroughly Chop the root into thin slices and place between paper in a drying cupboard for 2-3 weeks Soak the root in olive oil for up to 6 weeks (use a suitable jar) After 6 weeks, place the roots and oil over a double boiler and simmer for about an hour. Making Lavender Oil at Home
Lavender oil is fantastic during your herbal detox program for soothing aching muscles and to release the head and neck tension you sometimes get when detoxing. Massage into your body as you feel you need. Ingredients: About 100 Lavender flowers About 1 liter of olive oil (enough to cover flowers) Method: Cut the flowers on a dry day and place them into a paper bag. Place the bag in a warming cupboard for 2-3 days until flowers are dry and almost crispy. Place flowers into a suitable jar and cover with olive oil. Soak for 6 weeks keeping the flowers submerged beneath the oil. Keep the oil away from humidity and rotate the jar every few days. After six weeks, strain the oil out of the flowers with muslin and colander or sieve into a suitable bottle. Rub into aching or tense muscles as needed. Enjoy! Today we’re making our own Aloe Vera juice at home, with the help of a little lemon, ginger, and cucumber. We have used Aloe Vera straight from the garden and lemons from our lemon tree. Ingredients: 2 Large Aloe Vera leaves 1 Cucumber 1/2 Lemon 3-4 slices of Ginger root 6 cubes of Ice 200ml Water 1/4 tsp Stevia or 1 tsp honey Method: Peel and fillet the Aloe Vera leaves and add to blender. Peel and roughly chop the cucumber and add to blender. Juice the lemon, slice ginger and add all other ingredients to the blender. Lentil & Sweet Potato Fish Cakes
A great recipe for filling the gap when following your Ultimate Herbal Slim or Ultimate Herbal BodiTune program. By providing both fish and lentils you receive a good serving of protein while keeping the carbs to a minimum. It’s also gluten-free which helps digestion. I like to double up on the recipe and make extra for the freezer. They are great to reheat when the time is short for cooking dinner. Ingredients: 1 cup of Lentils 1 200 g can of wild-caught salmon 1 medium sized sweet potato (purple or gold) 1 white onion 6 cloves of garlic 2 Tsp of Indian curry powder 1 Tsp Turmeric Small bunch of fresh Coriander (Cilantro) 5 eggs Method: Day Before – Cover Lentils with 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes then turn off the heat and allow to soak overnight. This will make your Lentils soft and a lot less gassy when eaten. The next day, bring the lentils to the boil again for five minutes and allow them to cool. Peel and grate the sweet potato and add to a large bowl. Finely chop onion, Garlic, and Coriander and add to bowl. Sprinkle with turmeric and curry powder and stir together with a fork. This will coat the sweet potato, onions, and garlic with powdered spices. Break up the Salmon with a fork and stir in the bowl. Whisk the eggs in a separate bowl and add to the main bowl mixing in well. You now have your fish cake mix! A little trick I found to make great fish cakes is to use the Salmon can as a mold, just like a biscuit mold. This only works if you have a short fish can. Just press some of the fish cake mix into the can and upturn into the frying pan over your already hot oil. Cook for 10 minutes on each side to cook through and serve with vegetables of your choice. In this case, I have used steamed Broccoli and Leek along with a little Tomato, Cottage Cheese, and Avocado. I hope you enjoy this very satisfying meal! Mediterranean Summer Salad
This Mediterranean Salad is refreshing and full of great clean foods. Mix it up with your choice of greens! Iceberg Lettuce, Baby Spinach or Mescaline Greens, they all work! It is great for lunch or dinner. Serves 2 people Ingredients: Either Iceberg Lettuce, Baby Spinach or Mescaline Greens (or a mix of all 3) 1 x Chopped Avocado 4 x Sliced Radishes Half a sliced Cucumber 2 x sliced Tomato Quarter of a red onion A dozen Sun-dried Tomatoes A dozen Olives A little Pesto Dressing: Equal parts (about 100ml) of Olive oil, Plain yogurt, Apple cider vinegar. Add a dessert spoon hot English mustard (or mustard powder) and 1 tsp paprika. Method: Place the greens in the bowl then cut everything else and throw it in! Toss with the dressing. Enjoy! Carrot, Ginger & Turmeric Smoothie
A classic detox drink contains carrot, ginger, and lemon. This is a simple uncomplicated, healthy twist on a smoothie and includes turmeric the super antioxidant. Ingredients: Small bulb of Ginger root 1 dessertspoon Turmeric 1 small Lemon with the skin on 2 small Carrot (or one large) 8 cubes of Ice Honey or Stevia to sweeten 1 cup Orange juice Method: Chop all ingredients and add to the blender. Stuffed Eggplant
Eggplant is an incredible food, especially for budding vegetarians as it has the ability to taste like meat. This dish is a great example of this. It is a very basic stuffed eggplant than requires very little ingredients. Each eggplant serves one person. Ingredients: 1 x Eggplant 1 x small Onion 6 x Cloves of Garlic 2 dessertspoon Tomato paste Thyme, oregano or mixed herbs to taste Method: Slice eggplant in half lengthways and carve out center in one large piece if possible Cut eggplant center into cubes smaller than 1cm Dice onion and garlic Heat oil in a pan and saute diced filling ingredients adding herbs When soft, add tomato paste and stir until thick Spoon the mixture into the eggplant cases Back in oven dish at 175 C for 30 minutes until eggplant has cooked shriveled You could add a tiny bit of cheese if you’re on the one month detox or herbal slim programs Serve with salad or spinach frittata Perfect for: Ultimate Herbal DETOX Program Ultimate Herbal SLIM Program Ultimate DETOX n SLIM Program
Pumpkin & Spinach Oven Bake
Pumpkin, spinach, the food of muscle power, and eggs the ultimate protein super-food. Put these together and you have an amazing powerhouse. This dish is so easy to cook and is very satisfying to eat. Serves 8-10 people (great for leftovers) Ingredients: 1 Large crown pumpkin 4 x 100gm bunches of large leaf spinach 12-16 eggs (depending on the size of pumpkin) 2 white onions 2 bulbs of garlic 500ml of plain unsweetened yoghurt A small handful of mixed herbs Round of brie or camembert 2 tomatoes Mixed herbs Coconut oil (for the dish) Method: Slice and peel pumpkin into wedges Slice pumpkin again into 1cm thick wedges Place pumpkin into a pot and simmer for 10 minutes Get a large flat square or rectangle casserole dish. Mine is about 30cm by 20cm and 10cm deep. Smear dish generously with coconut oil Whisk eggs, yoghurt, and mixed herbs until smooth Chop spinach about 3-4 times lengthwise Drain the pumpkin in a colander and allow to cool Layer half pumpkin, half of the spinach, onions, and garlic into the dish and pour over half the egg mix Repeat this process again until all ingredients have been used Cook for 30 minutes in the oven Remove and add the remaining egg/yoghurt carefully and top with cheese and tomatoes Bake at 175 C for about another 1/2 hour or until you can see the egg is well cooked. Thai Green Fish & Coconut Curry
Although I recommend a mostly plant-based diet, I still feel the need for a little animal protein from time to time. My favourite source is fresh fish. This is a lightly tangy and delicious meal with a Thai curry flavor. It will have you going back for seconds! You can leave out the fish if you’re on a 14-day Herbal DETOX program and it will still taste great! Serves 4 people Ingredients: 6-8 cloves Garlic 1 x Large Onion 2 x Large Carrot 2 x Red Capsicum (Bell Pepper) 10-12 x Button Mushrooms 1 x Large head of Broccoli 100ml Authentic Thai Green curry paste 800ml Thick Coconut cream 500gm of Trevally, Lemon Fish (or other firm-fleshed fish) 1 Tsp each Cayenne Pepper and Turmeric Juice of 2 Limes Bunch of Corriander Method: Preparation Finely chop garlic, slice capsicum, wedge onion, and set aside in a bowl. Cut carrot into small 1/8 inch slices, and broccoli into small bite-size florets Chop mushrooms into quarters and set them aside Dice fish into 1-inch cubes and place in the fridge Cooking Set oven to 125 C Heat enough coconut oil in a wok to just cover half the fish cubes. Fry fish on medium heat for about 2-3 minutes until cooked. Do half at a time and set aside in warmer Rinse wok and add fresh oil. Stir fry garlic, onions for 2-3 minutes adding spices, then add carrot, broccoli, and 1/2 cup of water. Not to mention the snack habits that can be hard to break during the detox or slimming program. This recipe provides a treat or snack during your Herbal BodiTune 30 day detox or Herbal Slim program. It’s sugar-free and high in nutrition, good fats, protein, and antioxidants. Blueberries, cacao, and walnuts all have specific nutritional benefits for the brain. See below. Ingredients: 12 Dates 1 cup of walnuts 1/2 cup shredded coconut 1/3 cup coconut oil 1/3 cup raw cacao powder 2 Tablespoons of blueberries 1 Tablespoon of chia seeds 1 Tsp vanilla essence Method: Soak the dates in water for 1 hour until soft. Soak the Chia seeds in just enough water to cover them, so they thicken into a semi-solid jelly. Place the walnuts in the blender and process until a fine meal. Add everything else and process until a little pasty. Place mixture into a bowl and spoon out onto some coconut to roll into balls. Place into the fridge and allow to solidify for 1 hour before eating.
